Matthew Darwin

I graduated from Carleton University in 2000 with a degree in Computer Science but my practical experience started much earlier learning BASIC and teaching myself Pascal and Perl programming.

For more than 20 years I have worked in technology companies (Loran International Technologies, Peregrine Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Hewlett Packard Enterprise) in the roles of Linux system administrator, dev-ops engineer, web-based software development engineer, project manager and team manager up to the level of R&D Director. I have managed projects as well as both small and large teams (of up to 100 software developers) located in Asia, Europe and North America.

The projects I worked on focused primarily on IT Service Management, IT Asset Management and Network Discovery/Management. Agile software development methodologies (eg Scrum and Kanban) were used. I spent most of time on customer-focused engineering: understanding customers' requirements and then delivering improvements and features to existing products. My passion is business process excellence: removing work by automating manual tasks and modernizing delivery process.

I am ITIL Foundation certified on IT Service Management.

In my free time, I volunteer on various Ottawa Civic Technology projects and run the web site weatherstats.ca.
